Atique Ahmed, a former member of the Indian Parliament, was fatally shot on live TV in Prayagraj while being held by police. His brother also died from close range gunfire fired by three attackers disguised as journalists. The Uttar Pradesh government has responded to this incident with an order that no more than four people can gather in any one place across the state. Atique had been previously charged and convicted for kidnapping and murdering a witness involved in the 2005 murder of Bahujan Samaj Party politician.
